Jennifer Munkert
Jennifer Munkert earned her Diploma in Biology from the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) in 2009 and completed her PhD in Pharmaceutical Biology at FAU in 2014. During her doctoral and postdoctoral training, she worked in laboratories in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Brazil and held a postdoctoral position at the Division of Bioprocess Engineering at FAU. She is currently a Senior Scientist in the Division of Pharmaceutical Biology at FAU, where she completed her habilitation in 2024. Her research focuses on the biosynthesis of plant secondary metabolites, with particular interest on natural product chemistry, the bioactivity of small natural compounds, and the enzymes involved in natural product biosynthesis. More recently, she has expanded her research to plant-derived extracellular vesicles and the development of a cardenolide-based, target-oriented drug delivery system. Her extensive teaching responsibilities include lectures and practical courses for students in Pharmacy, Biology, and Molecular Science, as well as the supervision of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD theses. In recognition of her commitment to teaching, she received the Bavarian Teaching Award (“Preis für gute Lehre”) in 2023.
